The BEST taco seasoned meat recipe that I have come across. I have even made a batch where I added the juice of a half a lime...and that was a fantastic taste experience. I also used only 1/4 tsp salt and omitted the onion powder and added shallots (only because of personal sensitivity to onions). Try it , if you haven't! This recipe also makes an excellent base for chili.

I already had cooked ground turkey in the freezer, so just added the spices and water and simmered as directed. The brown sugar & vinegar added a subtle flavor that I really liked! I used the meat to make a salad of leaf lettuce, grape tomatoes, chick peas, avocado, cheddar cheese, cilantro & ranch dressing. Have saved this recipe to make again!

Delicious! The brown sugar adds a nice dimension to flavor. I added a tbsp of cornstarch to help thicken the mixture. Throw out those sodium-laden premixed versions you buy at the store and try this. You'll get hooked on the taste and you'll be surprised at how easy it is. Thank you for the recipe.
11/20/2018
Good weeknight dinner. Instead of water, I added beer.
07/24/2019
I try to follow these recipes as they are, otherwise how can you give an accurate review when you change half the recipe. I thought this was delicious exactly as it is and will definitely be making this again. I brought leftovers to work for lunch but didn't get to it until 2 days later but it was just as good as when it was first made.
10/29/2018
I didnt have any apple cider vinegar and so left that and the brown sugar out. I was very surprised how good it turned out. Also, I had a 40oz package of ground turkey and it was perfect. Not bland at all despite a much larger quantity of meat. Like they said, I could not tell I was eating turkey. It also didnt have the greasy taste that ground beef has. I made burritos and garnished it with chopped onion, cilantro, green salsa, sour cream and shredded cheddar cheese. Definitely gonna save this recipe! I recommend it.
05/17/2018
Phenomenal!!! I followed it exactly with no adjustments. I do serve fresh lime on the table and encourage my guests to use a few however! I prefer this to ANY ground beef dish! Turkey Tostadas are a new favorite with this recipe. Thanks!! ??
01/08/2020
I tried this based off the many positive reviews but beware - the reviewers that state that it is overpowering are very correct. If you make this, cut back on the chili powder and cumin to balance the flavors better. Famous Taco Seasoning Mix, on this website, is my favorite and I will not stray again.
02/17/2018
I made this tonight. I didn't think it was possible to make taco seasoning at home. I grew up thinking it only came in a package from the store. Wow was I in for a pleasant surprise! This recipe was better than ANY package from the store. The best part is I substituted Stevia for the sugar and it still turned out amazing. I used cabbage leaves as a taco instead of an actual taco, but it was awesome! Thanks for the recipe whoever you are.
03/30/2017
Pretty good! I added about 5 cloves of garlic and an onion prior to putting the ground turkey in and I loved it! I had to substitute the cider vinegar with rice wine vinegar and it seemed to do the trick! Ate this with rice and a sunny side up egg on top.
04/25/2018
Loved it! I didn't add cayenne because of my lil one sharing with us, but still super yummy! I tasted it as I went, and loved how it tasted without the sugar too. So next time I might omit the sugar as well, but it was delicious with it. Saving this recipe for sure.
05/12/2018
This was quite good. I usually hate the taste of turkey, especially turkey burgers, but this had good flavor. I thought the amount of apple cider vinegar listed would be too much, but that wasn't the case. The only thing I changed was that I added capers, which actually elevated the dish. I also think a little tomato paste would make it taste even better.
03/09/2017
Pretty good recipe except next time I make it I think I will cut down on the salt. Other than that I liked the overall flavor. Not your typical taco meat but still good.
01/10/2020
I was a little hesitant about the amount of spices used but I followed the recipe exactly - even down to the brown sugar & cider vinegar. It was delicious...none of the bland taste typically found with ground turkey. I served it with seasoned black beans, grated cheese, chopped onions, avocado, sour cream along with sour cream on the side.
03/25/2018
Delicious flavor but way too much salt. And I was already using 16 oz turkey, not 12. I ended up having to curb the saltiness by adding some plain cooked oatmeal to soften the salty flavor. It also helped to add some bulk to the taco meat. Next time I'd use only 1/4 tsp. otherwise I will use this recipe again
11/16/2019
Delicious, but way too spicy!!! We love extremely spicy food and put hot sauce and jalapeños on just about everything. This recipe should come with a warning and glass of milk. This is one of the spiciest dishes we've ever eaten!
08/08/2017
This recipe has great flavor. It was VERY spicy, but I also added jalepenos from our garden, and I had to use chipotle powder since I didn't have any regular chili powder on hand. I also sautéed some diced onion along with the turkey and jalepenos, and added a splash of lime juice with the vinegar and brown sugar (only used 1 teaspoon of brown sugar instead of 1 & 1/2).
06/19/2018
will make it again. instead of onion and garlic powder, I diced and sauted 1/2 onion and 2 cloves garlic before adding Turkey. Spice was great. I served the meat in a sliced tomato with shredded cheese. Yummy.
07/02/2017
Not a fan, would not make again. 'Twas a wee sweet for my taste. 'Twas good until the bit about the brown sugar. To be quite honest i thought it was a bit nasty. Thank you for your time.
11/29/2017
This is our go-to turkey taco meat seasoning! It's so easy to make and the ingredients are always in our pantry. We love it! I make the recipe without the cider vinegar and brown sugar and think it tastes perfect! Thanks for a great recipe!
04/20/2019
Very tasty!
12/14/2019
I did not add the brown sugar...I did add one can RO*TEL (Diced Tomatoes and Green Chilies) - put this all on top of a mixed spring greens salad!
02/06/2018
Loved! Super tasty, very easy, I had all ingredients in my pantry. I didn't change a thing and it is definitely a do-over. Initially I thought it would be too spicy for my kids but after adding all ingredients for a big fat taco, it was perfect. My picky kids lapped it up. Different taste than your typical taco seasoning. I'm a fan.... thank you for the recipe!
06/17/2019
Went a little heavier on the spices bc I have 16 oz. of turkey. So good!! I am going to make a big batch and freeze it for easy dinners.
04/26/2018
After reading the other reviews I used half the suggested vinegar and brown sugar. We loved the results!
08/28/2017
I needed something quick & easy for a lunch taco salad. This recipe was perfect--I had all the ingredients on hand. My package of turkey was 16 oz vs 12 oz and I omitted the paprika as mine was old. Came out great!
08/06/2019
Great easy recipe! Family loved it. I may add a little less chili powder next time for my personal taste.
12/27/2019
Very flavorful for ground turkey! I omitted the salt, oregano, and cayenne pepper. I swapped out the onion powder for 2 tablespoons of dried chopped onion and added one 8-oz can of tomato sauce.
03/26/2017
I added siracha powder and a little more brown sugar.turned out amazing. Mixed it with white queso rice and salsa and was good to go.
01/17/2018
Perfect, I increased the cumin a bit as its one of my favourites. My first time making tacos with ground turkey
09/22/2018
WOW!! This was delicious!
06/25/2018
I prefer my chili a little bit spicier, but you can make that to taste. This was so good and such a delicious comfort food!
05/28/2018
I did not use chili didn"t have it in hand. My son is very picky eater and loved it.
03/13/2019
awesome recipe - hit with the family. Served with all the fixings
05/08/2019
You cannot tell it isnt beef ! this recipe is insane for real i have no idea how it works but it does!! a staple for my recipe box ! cant wait to share this recipe with family and friends! I always up the garlic, and use smoked paprika ontop of the ingredient list for a nice spice. Also, i add dried onions (sometimes we just dont have enough time), and towards the end i add fresh chopped parsley to the pan as its shimmering for a nice pop of color. BEST TACO RECIPE EVER
06/02/2020
Fabulous!!!
01/22/2020
I left out the vinegar and doubled the recipe for 2 lbs of turkey , very good my kids enjoyed it and liked it better than the package seasoning !
11/11/2018
Every time I make this for my family it is always a hit. Oooo the spicyness.
05/06/2018
Definitely will make this again. Loved it. This will be my go to taco meat now. I added fresh squeezed lime juice at the end and instead of taco shells used lettuce wraps. I served with a side of pineapple and salad which made for nice flavor combination.
05/19/2020
I cook just about every meal at our home. I'm extremely open to any suggested recipes. I do a lot of research and when looking for a taco meat recipe I came upon this one. I have to say this is the worst tasting taco meat I have ever made. My gut said it was way too much salt and why so much Chili powder? Well I made it anyways to give it a shot. My husband who will eat anything said it was dreadful. With that said, I will go back to my recipe that does not have Chili Powder nor is it overly salty like this one. This recipe MASKS the meat.
02/26/2020
I should have made a double recipe!
08/08/2018
Love it
06/25/2019
Holy *bleep*, this recipe surprised me. I was not expecting such a great flavor, and now my husband wants to make this our "go to" taco meat from now on. No complaints here, this is so good!
01/15/2019
Followed exactly- meh Wont make again
01/15/2019
Love this recipe. I normally don't cook with ground turkey and I found this to be just the right amount of Sweet and spicy just as if I was going to make it with ground beef . I highly recommend you try it
03/12/2020
This is hands down the best taco meat I've ever made in my life. Wouldn't change a thing!
01/24/2018
My whole family loved the tacos I made with this recipe. I only added a dash of cumin, only because we don't prefer the flavor of cumin generally. I also only added 1 tsp of brown sugar, and it was not too sweet at all - it was a perfect blend of flavors.
12/29/2019
This taco seasoning is so tasty! I added chopped red peppers, onions, and sweet grape tomatoes for visual appeal. Yum!
06/17/2021
A really good and flavorful recipe. I swapped the onion powder for a small onion. I omitted the salt. I added a can of black beans and some corn. My family devoured this! It's a keeper.
05/24/2021
This was really good just as is! Thanks for a delicious turkey taco dish!
06/10/2021
Pretty good. I would cut the cayenne in half, 1.5x the sugar, and replace the water with broth if available.
04/14/2022
it was ok
05/08/2021
I also added onion and red, green and orange bell peppers. Yummy!
04/11/2022
Oh, wow. So delicious. I was surprised how well it turned out. My husband who prefers beef loved it too. I definitely would recommend trying this recipe out. You won't be disappointed.
06/02/2021
My new favorite! I used this recipe to make hearty nachos with chips, salsa, sour cream, lettuce, shredded cheddar,…. So good! I will make again for sure!
03/20/2021
We love this recipe. Just the right spices!
04/29/2020
I omitted the chili powder for my kids. I've already made this again, due to the rave reviews from husband and two kids.
02/19/2019
i omit the cayanne pepper-my family is not so spicy! So good a weekly staple
08/27/2018
Cut back a bi on the cayenne if your chili powder is hot like mine. Also added a table spoon of tomato paste. As Taco salad meat this was a success
10/26/2019
My husband didn't even know it wasn't beef! Excellent recipe! Thank you for sharing. Of course I also cooked 1 onion with it b/c we love onion (still used the onion powder).
12/13/2019
Left out the brown sugar (low carb) and it tastes amazing! Will make again. Also used 1 LB of turkey instead of just 12 oz -- perfectly spiced.
03/27/2020
I've made this several times. Love it! Last time I made it I added a can of diced tomatoes with basil, oregano and garlic. This is much better than packaged taco seasoning
07/15/2018
I didn't use cayenne because my 5 year old is sensitive to spicy food but still it was delicious!
10/01/2019
Made as I ran out of taco seasoning and my family loved it.
08/24/2019
Supreme blend .. dulls the turkey flavour / added kernel corn
06/27/2020
Made my whole family happy, which is VERY hard to do!!! I substituted the cider vinegar (ran out) with 1/3 cup tomato sauce. I have the 3 bears - my husband likes things very flavorful and spicy, my daughter likes it flavorful, and my son likes everything mild. This one satisfied all them! My husband just added a bit of hot sauce to his. I double the recipe and make extra now, and we use the leftover meat for nachos or mexican salads on a different night. Dinner for 2 nights!
01/03/2018
Made this for dinner and it was a hit!! I added the garlic and onion prior to cooking the meat. I did use ground deer vs. Turkey. My picky eater husband loved it!!
04/01/2020
Followed the recipe, except adding lime juice instead of the vinegar. It's delicious.
03/17/2020
I love,love,love this recipe!
07/29/2018
I always look at the pkg of pre-mixed to determine the ingredients but did not have the measurements. Thank you for this! I added some black beans to mine and instead of onion powder, I added some fresh chopped onion. Delicious! I'll never go back to the pre-pkg mix!
05/15/2020
I had very little hope for turkey taco meat but then I found this recipe. I made 48oz of meat so I quadrupled all the measurements. My family doesn't like super spicy so I omitted the cayenne. We were out of onion powder so I replaced it with I full chopped onion which I cooked with the meat in the skillet. Surprisingly, my kids and I really enjoyed it! I was shocked! Thank you for sharing!
05/06/2020
It came out soooo tasty! But I did make some changes to the spices. Instead of chilling powder I used taco seasoning and instead of cayenne pepper I used Cajun. Overall I kept everything the same and it was good. Definitely will make this recipe again.
11/02/2020
Fantastic! I make this every other week or so.
10/03/2020
Delicious!
03/03/2020
This recipe is excellent! In terms of spices I followed the recipe to a tee. When I made it the first time I found it came out a bit dry; for a richer and moister dish, I added more water and at the end a generous amount of apple cider vinegar as well as a bit more brown sugar. I make this at least a couple of times a month. Everyone loves it and it's easily my favorite easy dish to make.
03/07/2018
It was great! I didn't have some of the ingredients but it still turned out delicious!
06/07/2020
The ground turkey I use is from Costco in a four pack. I believe one pack is about 1 lb. I used the amount of seasonings called for but halved the salt. I served with slaw and sour cream. Very good and now have made this twice.
03/31/2019
Probably the best taco recipe I've ever made. I usually don't like adding sugar to my recipes, but decided to do it since I added the vinegar... I thought they probably needed to go together. And it didn't seem like too much. In the end, a really great blend... VERY VERY good. Kids loved it. BTW - I don't like turkey!
02/20/2019
I didn't have any cider vinegar on hand and I opted out on the brown sugar. I added drained diced stewed tomatoes instead of water. Yum! I will be making this again.
08/15/2020
I didn't care for this, and either did my husband. I made it according to the recipe, no changes. I didn't like the flavor of the sugar and vinegar at end - it made it almost barbecue-ish which made for a weird flavor once you put the other toppings on.
03/09/2020
This recipe is perfect as is! The only thing i did different was mixed the brown sugar into all the dry ingredients then i added the vinegar after the meat, water and seasoning was already simmering. That was only because i didn't read correctly. It smelled and tasted just like the packages you buy out of the store. Will use this again!
05/21/2018
Excellent, but I would decrease cayenne next time just because we love to add pickled jalapenos and Cholula hot sauce to taste on our tacos. Also, I simmered it a bit too long and it was drier than we like, but that was my bad. Will definitely make again. Saved to my favorites!
10/07/2018
Best Taco night ever! Other reviewers are 100% right. The ground turkey was moist with an unexpected, next level flavor. It was so simple to prepare. New classic.
01/20/2019
Amazing! Best spice mixture for tacos I've ever tried. I half the sugar but keep everything the same. When I make the taco, sometimes I put quacamole, a little cilantro, sour cream, and a little squeeze of lime. Heaven.
06/19/2020
Our go-to taco meat recipe. The seasoning blend is perfect! You definitely won't miss the beef. This is WAY better!
05/14/2019
Super good. Will totally make again!!
11/28/2019
Hands down the best taco meat seasoning. The brown sugar and apple cider vinegar are important.
03/15/2020
I made a few modifications but this was delicious. I added extra cumin, smokey paprika, lots of garlic and onion powder. Sooo good.
05/23/2020
Made it as close as possible to the recipe (except I had just run out of brown sugar! So I used honey instead). Great flavor! The vinegar at the end adds a refreshing depth my turkey has always needed :)
01/10/2019
Came out great tasting perfect spice!
01/28/2022
I like it but need to cut the spices in half. It was bit overpowering.
06/26/2019
Absolutely delicious!! Loved it! Way better than using the taco seasoning loaded with MSG and all sorts of stuff. This is a hit
02/12/2022
Awesome recipe!
09/06/2021
Tasty! Don't cook ground turkey too long, it will dry out. I added an extra tsp of taco seasoning mix, great on salads!
06/18/2021
Delicious. Used half the chili powder and added to 1.5lbs ground turkey.
11/24/2020
I will no longer purchase packets of taco seasonings anymore. It's a keeper that you can use with a salad, taco's, quesadilla's, and tostadas. Never added vinegar and brown sugar before, but it gives great flavor to the season's base.
03/16/2018
I did not make any changes & my family loved this. I made the entire recipe, but only used half & stored the rest for next time.
03/26/2019
Awesome and the spicy-ness is perfect!
12/22/2019
Delicious!
